rTMS stands for repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. A magnetic coil placed against the head sends gentle magnetic pulses to the part of the brain involved in mood. You stay awake and seated throughout.

rTMS is given at Karla Mind & Neuromodulation, Jubilee Hills. It is given as a course of sessions, and the number of sessions is decided at your assessment. Whether rTMS suits you is decided after a full psychiatric assessment.

Common questions

Does rTMS hurt?

Most people feel a tapping on the scalp. A mild headache can happen early in the course and usually settles.

Who cannot have rTMS?

People with metal implants in or near the head, some implanted devices, or a history of seizures may not be suitable. This is checked at the assessment.

Is rTMS the same as shock treatment (ECT)?

No. rTMS uses magnetic pulses, needs no anaesthesia and does not cause a seizure.
